The Eco-Retrofit Talk & TourBack by popular demand, Groundwork is offering a great evening seminar, just in time for your spring building projects. WEL Networks will also be on hand to talk about their new photovoltaic solar power generation system at The Greenspace. “Oikos: The Ecological and Economical Home” – Nelson LeboFrom abandoned wreck to cosy oasis in 9 months. This high impact slide show chronicles the dramatic success of an eco-thrifty renovation project in Castlecliff, Wanganui. Seven design principles guided the process of converting a cold, drafty 100 year old villa into an energy efficient home. Monthly power bills are regularly under $20 - even in winter - and rubbish fees are virtually nonexistent. This programme will inform, entertain and inspire. For a preview, see: www.ecothriftydoup.blogspot.com Nelson Lebo is a permaculture designer, green builder and environmental educator. With high levels of economic and ecological debt crippling the planet, he believes the time for eco-thrifty living is now. And it starts at home. “The Greenspace: Sustainable Business without Breaking the Bank” – Annie PerkinsSee how we converted a 1930s bungalow into a practical and green business space in Hamilton East. A quick slideshow with a tour of the finished building and garden, this presentation allows you to see how an eco-renovation works – from laying the foundations right through to the day-to-day running of a green building. Topics include: additions and conversions without losing character; the trade-offs between cost and performance; and making use of what you have in order to save money. Guests are invited to get a “backstage” look at The Greenspace meeting venue to see how we use green principles to guide our business practice and find out why the building has won awards for environmental building design and management. Annie Perkins is a business/project manager and professional facilitator.
